New Delhi all set to red-carpet new premier Koirala

NEW DELHI : With economic and political issues topping the agenda, democratic Nepals new Prime Minister G.P. Koirala will embark on a goodwill visit of India, the first after his appointment after Parliament was restored in April, on Tuesday. As preparations got underway to welcome Koirala, an official at the Nepalese Embassy said Koirala will lead a 41-member delegation including four ministers -- Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat, Local Development Minister Rajendra Pandey, Minister for Housing and Works Gopal Man Shrestha and Minister for Women and Social Welfare Urmila Aryal. New Delhi hopes to give visas on arrival to tourists

New Delhi: Desperate to sell India as a 365-day destination, the government is thinking of issuing visas on arrival to tourists from around the world. Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said yesterday that India had targeted an annual 25 per cent growth to facilitate over 10 million arrivals by 2012. India currently receives around 3.5 million overseas visitors. Some of the alternatives like visa on arrival, long-term visa, multiple entry visas are being examined with the ministries of home and external affairs, given Indias concerns on security issues, Soni said here.

Spanish PM Zapatero arrives in New Delhi

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on a four-day visit during which the two countries will sign Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on criminal matters and two other pacts. The visit is the first at the Head of the Government level from either side in 13 years and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Zapatero will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday after which the two countries will sign three accords -- Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on Criminal Matters, MoU on Institutionalisation of Political
