Delhi court sentences youth for life for minors rape : cum : murder

Terming the act as barbaric, a city court today handed down life sentence to a youth who abducted, raped and then smothered to death a five-year-old girl of his neighbourhood in East Delhi nearly six years ago.

This barbaric offence by the convict appears to be pre-meditated and was committed in a gruesome manner, said additional sessions judge (ASJ) Sanjay Sharma rejecting the fervent mercy plea of one Manish who killed his minor neighbour in Yamuna Khader after sexually assaulting her.

However, Suresh, an alleged accomplice of the convict, was acquitted by the ASJ for want of evidence.

On the intervening night of July 15-16, 2000, the convict abducted the girl during her sleep from her Yamuna Khader residence in Shakarpur locality of East Delhi.

After taking the girl to a lonely place, Manish ravished and smothered her to death.

During the investigation, police recovered slippers of the convict from the place of offence and later nabbed him.
