Delhi’s water-problems set to ease : Soz
With Delhi set to face a shortfall of 170 million gallons of water per day (MGD) this summer, residents of the national capital are apprehensive of how they will meet their water needs.
Allaying fears of yet another parched Delhi summer, Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz yesterday assured that the national capitals water-position would ease, but refused to give a time-frame.
The Delhi Jal Board produces approximately 685 million gallons per day (MGD) of water, at an average of 200 litres of water a day per person, making it one of highest water consuming cities in the world.
Delhis problem is appreciated. It has a strong case for more water. Its position will ease, Soz said, emerging from a meeting of the upper Yamuna Review Committee.
When pressed for a time-frame within which this would happen, however, he refused to elaborate.
