NEW DELHI: Def Leppard sang, Ill be two steps behind you. And the wives of Indian politicians followed that dictum forever. Yet, when on Wednesday, Farhad Suri was elected the mayor of Delhi, his wife Sangeeta rushed forward to give him a hug and a kiss.

The kiss created ripples in Delhis political circles as wives are not generally expected to indulge in such spontaneous demonstrations of affection or happiness in public. So are Delhis politicians finally coming of age and stepping headlong into the 21st century.

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan to perform in Delhi day celebrations

New Delhi : A three-day cultural extravaganza with performances by noted artistes like Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and screening of Bollywood blockbusters Parineeta and Chokher Bali marked the Delhi Day celebrations in Moscow, whcih began yesterday. Organised as per the protocol signed between the Governments of Moscow and Delhi, the festival would be jointly inaugurated by the Mayor of Moscow and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who left for the Russian capital yesterday morning along with a seven-member official delegation.
