Delhi march demands justice for Priyadarshini Mattoo

New Delhi - Actor Anupam Kher and MP Maneka Gandi joined about 200 protestors here Sunday to demand justice for Delhi University student Priyadarshini Mattoo who was allegedly raped and murdered by another student.

The protestors, demanding a retrial of the case, marched up to Jantar Mantar to garner support for the victim.

The march, organised by a forum Justice for Priyadarshini, also marked Mattoos 36th birthday.

It is time the authorities are made aware of such a case and the accused be brought to justice, said Kher.

Speaking at the forum, Gandhi said she would raise the issue in the parliament during the monsoon session.

SBI Strike: Delhi HC Adjourns Matter

The Central Government today did not concede the demands of the striking SBI employees to increase the pensionary benefits forcing the Delhi High Court to adjourn the matter till April 19. Appearing before a division bench of Justice Mukundan Sharma and Justice Reva Khetrapal, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) P P Malhotra said the employees of the state-owned State Bank of India were enjoying all three benefits--gratuity, contributory provident fund and pension. New Delhi: Supreme Court Stays Gujarat Demolitions

New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the Gujarat high court order directing authorities to remove all religious structures that were encroaching upon public spaces across the state without any discrimination. The order to this effect was passed by a Bench comprising Justice Ruma Pal and Justice Dalveer Bhandari on an urgent plea made by the Centre during the mentioning hour seeking to stay the May 2 high court directions. Quoting Home Ministry report, he said situation in Vadodara was tense after the violence and army had staged a flag march in the riot-affected areas.

Delhi HC directs police to produce rapist

New Delhi : Acting on the complaint of a minor girl that R K Puram Police refused to register a case against her neighbour, who allegedly raped and forcibly married her, the Delhi High Court has directed the government to produce before it the accused, Rahul. In a letter to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, the victim claimed that she was compelled to complain directly to the court as police refused to register any case against the accused despite repeated pleas by her family. According to the victim, she was initially raped at knife-point in August 2003

Delhi HC turns down Reliance airport plea

The Delhi High Court today dismissed the petition by the Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Airport Developers challenging the governments decision to award contracts for the modernisation of the Delhi and Mumbai airports to GMR-Frafort and GVK-ACS, respectively. There is in our opinion complete transparency in the decision leading to the modification of the Request for Proposal (RFP) in the tender and uniformity in its application to the bidders who qualified in the process, said the 127-page order by a Division Bench comprising Justice Tirath Singh Thakur and Justice BN Chaturvedi.
