US lawmakers plan Delhi visit over nuke deal

Repub-lican House leader Dennis Hastert and other lawmakers announced plans to visit India to discuss a controversial bilateral nuclear deal made in March. Hastert will head the eight-member group, which plans to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi during the trip starting today. “The delegation will discuss the recent initiatives between the two countries, including the importance of civil nuclear co-operation initiatives in strengthening the international non-proliferation system,” Hasterts office said in a statement on Friday. Republican Senator Charles Hagel also announced travel plans to India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Rajashekhar Reddy is leaving for New Delhi on August 2nd to meet the Prime Minister and other central ministers to discuss about drought situation in the state and assured financial help from central government. The CM will discuss with them about the special package announced by central government for the families of farmers who committed suicides. He will request to announce a package to Andhra Pradesh similar to that of Vidarbha after the Village Panchayat elections are over. He will also discuss about reducing interest on loans provided to the farmers.

NEW DELHI: India will host the inaugural Asian Hopman Cup mixed team tennis championships to start from November 13. The $70,000 prize money event has been allotted to the All India Tennis Association by the Asian Tennis Federation for a period of three years and the winner will be given an entry into the main draw of the Hyundai Hopman Cup.
