Demand for piped gas growing in Delhi

New Delhi : Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), the sole provider of piped cooking gas in the capital, is planning to scale up its infrastructure because the list of residential areas awaiting connection is growing faster than the networks expansion.

The increasing demand is due to the monthly bill for piped gas proving to be less than the cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, a survey done by IGL has found.

We receive a lot more requests from resident welfare associations (RWAs). Earlier 30-50 percent residents in a colony opted for the piped gas connection, now 70-77 percent go for it, IGL Managing Director A.K. De told IANS.

The reason is not only the convenience of having metered gas without a cylinder occupying space and having to book for refills but also the cost.
