Delhi Metro to start work on Noida line

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will start work Wednesday onwards on the seven-kilometre Noida line that will connect the national capital with the IT capital of Uttar Pradesh, as part of its second phase.

The work will start with test piling and will be inaugurated by Samajwadi Party MP and Uttar Pradesh Development Council chief Amar Singh at Sector 32 of the satellite township.

Under test piling, holes in the ground will be made to lay the concrete foundation at equal distances, said a DMRC spokesperson.

He said that top officials of the Delhi Metro, including its chief E Sreedharan, would participate in the inaugural function.

Delhi Metro to acquire 10 more trains

New Delhi - Commuters in the crowded national capital now have reason to smile - Delhi Metro has decided to add 10 more trains to its existing fleet within the next two years. Looking at the rousing response from commuters, we have decided to induct 10 new trains in the next two years, says Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chief spokesman Anuj Dayal. Train knocks down two engineers repairing signal cables; the second injured is in hospital

New Delhi: An engineer working with Delhi Metro was on Thursday died after being hit by a train while he was carrying out repair work between Shahdara and Welcome stations. The incident took place around 1 pm when two Metro engineers were repairing signal cables. Both were hit. They were immediately rushed to the nearby GTB Hospital at Shahdara where 27-year-old Indermohan Srivastava, a section engineer, was declared brought dead while 22-year-old Purushottam Priyadarshi, a junior engineer, was admitted with a fracture in his right arm, a DMRC release said.

NEW DELHI: Realising full well that the state-of-the-art Delhi Metro could become a target of terrorists planning to inflict large-scale damage, security on the railway network has been stepped up.
