Delhi to host inaugural Asian Hopman Cup

NEW DELHI: India will host the inaugural Asian Hopman Cup mixed team tennis championships to start from November 13. The $70,000 prize money event has been allotted to the All India Tennis Association by the Asian Tennis Federation for a period of three years and the winner will be given an entry into the main draw of the Hyundai Hopman Cup. The Asian Tennis Federation and the Hopman Cup are entering into an agreement for having the event every year before the annual Hyundai Hopman Cup, which is held in Perth, Australia in December-January. New Delhi to host 2011 World Cup final

New Delhi: The 2011 World Cup final will be held in Delhi, probably at a new stadium to be built by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It was decided that Delhi will host the final, while the two semifinals will be shared between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi said on Monday. Bangladesh will host the opening ceremony, he said adding that the decision was taken at a meeting of the respective Boards of the four countries in London recently.

Delhi is a vital transit point for narcotics

Delhi has become an important transit point of narcotics and the Union Home Ministry attributes it to the capitals proximity to opium producing states like Uttar Pradesh, and being the centre of the transportation network. Statistics available with the Ministry reveal while 1,140 cases were registered by the Delhi Police in 2005, as many as 790 cases have been registered till mid-July this year. Delhi to host womens world boxing championship

New Delhi : The Womens World Boxing championship will be held in Delhi later this year after some of the participating nations made a request for the event to be shifted from Hyderabad. The November 17 to 24 competition was scheduled to be held in Hyderabad but following a request by some of the nations, the Amateur International Boxing Association asked India to consider their proposal. The Indian Amateur Boxing Federation agreed to the request after taking into account the logistics involved. Sources in the Federation said the participants were apprehensive of travelling to Hyderabad as there are no direct
