Delhi faces worst power shortage: Shinde

NEW DELHI: National capital Delhi is facing its worst power shortage with a 4.4 per cent peak demand deficit, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told Parliament on Friday.

Delhi faced an energy shortfall of 4.2 per cent and peak deficit of 4.4 per cent in April. Peak shortage in 2005-06 was 3.3 per cent, 1.9 per cent in 2004-05 and 3 per cent in 2003-04, he said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha here.

New Delhi : The capital reeled under heavy loadshedding as the power shortage crept upto 600 mw due to a drastic cut in supply from several generating units. Rotational loadshedding was effected in Delhi due to non-functioning of the Naptha-Jhakri Power Plant following high silt level leading to a shortage of 300 mw of power, an official spokesperson said. New Delhi : The national capital got some respite from the tormenting power outages today as there was negligible loadshedding in the city due to a sharp decrease in electricity demand. Reeling under a severe electricity shortage, resulting in power cuts and blackouts for the last several days, residents of the city heaved a sigh of relief as there was only 18 mw loadshedding throughout the day. Measures afoot to solve Delhi power crisis

Delhi Power Minister Haroon Yusuf Monday announced measures to provide relief to residents from the ongoing power shortage. Yusuf asked authorities to deploy senior officials at the complaint centres so that consumers problems could be immediately sorted out. Officials said that distribution companies or discoms have been asked to avoid unscheduled load shedding and to provide accurate information on power cuts to consumers.
