Delhi government nod to mothers name in documents

In a revolutionary step towards womens empowerment, the Delhi government on Tuesday gave its nod to include the name of mothers in all official documents and certificates released by different departments.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting.

Officials said that henceforth, voters identity cards, driving licenses, ration cards, school certificates, birth and death certificates and disability certificates would include the mothers name.

They said that particulars of both parents in the documents would help in establishing the identity of the person concerned in a more specific way.

The officials said the government has also decided to provide top priority to all womens empowerment schemes and programmes.
