Striking Delhi docs observe civil disobedience against quota issue

New Delhi: Even as President APJ Abdul Kalam urged the agitating medical students to end their fast and resume their normal student life, the striking medicos have decided to continue their stir and are observing civil disobedience here today.

AIIMS Resident Doctors Association member Dr Vinod Patro said that they have appealed various groups such as traders, resident welfare associations, bank personnel and members of BAR associations to skip the work from 9 a.m. to 12 noon today.

According to the striking medicos, the move is being supported by the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) and the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

The DMA would also organise a dharna at AIIMS today between 11 a.m. and 5 a.m. to support the medicos agitation.

Striking Delhi docs get termination notices

New Delhi : Termination notices were on Tuesday issued to striking medicos in state-run hospitals in the capital even as Delhi government on Tuesday came out with ads for recruiting junior and senior doctors to cope with the situation. The medical superintendents in Delhi government hospitals have started issuing notices to the striking doctors this morning, Health Secretary D S Negi said. Notices were issued to the more than 700 doctors who are on strike to resume duties within 24 hours or face termination of service.

GMR, Delhi airport in bag, to enter cap mkt

MUMBAI : GMR Infrastructure Ltd, which has bagged the contract for modernising Delhi international airport, would enter the capital market on July 31, with an initial public issue of Rs 38,136,980 equity shares of Rs 10 each. The price band of the issue has been fixed at Rs 210- Rs 250 for an equity share of Rs 10 each. The issue opens on July 31 and closes on August 4, 2006. JP Morgan Stanley, DSP Merrill Lynch, Inam Financial Consultants and SSKI Corporate Finance are the book running lead managers for the issue.

SBI Strike: Delhi HC Adjourns Matter

The Central Government today did not concede the demands of the striking SBI employees to increase the pensionary benefits forcing the Delhi High Court to adjourn the matter till April 19. Appearing before a division bench of Justice Mukundan Sharma and Justice Reva Khetrapal, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) P P Malhotra said the employees of the state-owned State Bank of India were enjoying all three benefits--gratuity, contributory provident fund and pension. HYDERABAD: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy is visiting New Delhi on Monday to meet Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for discussion on the Central package for districts affected by farmer suicides and lifting of maize stocks in the State.
